Meet Free The Girls New Executive Director
Free The Girls Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Courtney Skiera-Vaughn has been hired as the new Executive Director.
Courtney has an impressive background in working with trafficking survivors and non-profits. Most recently, she served as the Country Director in Uganda for Kwagala Project, where she worked with many of the women in Free The Girls program. Courtney and her husband recently returned to Colorado from living abroad in Uganda. She is very pleased to have been selected as Free The Girls next Executive Director.
“I’m so honored to be a part of the Free The Girls team! I’ve been on the ground in Uganda and have witnessed first-hand the impact that this organization makes – it truly transforms lives. It helps real women–women I now call friends–earn enough money to pay rent and to feed their children. Free The Girls program provides survivors with dignity and empowerment. And I’m just delighted that I can continue to be a part of the Free The Girls story, with all the fantastic volunteers, partners, supporters, and staff members that make up this global family,” says Courtney of her new position.
Current Executive Director Kimba Langas will be stepping down from her post on May 31 to take a sabbatical. She and co-founder Dave Terpstra started Free The Girls just over five years ago. For the first three years, Kimba volunteered her time as the Executive Director.
According to Kimba, “It has been an absolute honor and privilege to serve as Executive Director these past five years. I’m thrilled about the possibilities of where Courtney will take Free The Girls as an organization. I am looking forward to spending the summer with my son. He was a toddler when Free The Girls started and being a mommy is always going to be my number one job. But, if you know me, you know I will remain involved with Free The Girls–it is my passion! I’m excited about joining the Board of Directors later this year and remaining with Free The Girls in a more advisory role.”
Board president Greg Arthur noted that the Board has a position coming open on October 1 and Kimba has graciously agreed to fill that position.
